UVP
SOFTWARE
A
completely new software package - version 3 - has been developped for
the new instrument generation UVP-DUO.
It has been programmed from scratch with Win32 standards, featuring both
data acquisition and post-processing in a single core program. It is a
powerful software capable of handling large quantity of data as delivered
by the new hardware performances, and this as well under old Windows 98
as on the latest Windows XP Pro operating systems.
In addition version 3 software has been adapted to Windows NT kernel to
allow UVP-XW users of the former standard version 2.1 to upgrade.

PARAMETERS SETTINGS
The use of the whole program is very intuitive and follows Microsoft guidelines
for interface design. Great care has been taken to make version 3 as user-friendly
as possible.
A wizard-style dialog allows for easy setting of UVP parameters, checking
settings consistency and suggesting suitable ranges when required, using
visuals aids for some specific data.
Parameters are recorded in each UVP file header; to retrieve the settings
of any UVP measurement you simply open its data file to load the corresponding
parameters.

REAL-TIME COMPUTATION
The velocity calculation from Doppler-shift detection is being made real-time
by the Digital Signal Processor inside the UVP device. UVP version 3 program
can then display velocity profile real-time while storing the corresponding
data.
All data displays have context-sensitive options that can be modified
by right mouse button click; cursor coordinates are continuously displayed;
display zooming and moving is possible at any time, and specific data
point displays can be called by selection directly on the graph.
|
|
Time series from single velocity channel at a fixed distance can be monitored
real-time. Sets of time series from various channels can be displayed in
parallel, moreover smoothing filter can be applied and modified real-time
without losing the raw velocity data. |
|
|
Raw echo amplitude as a function of distance can be displayed real-time
in parallel with velovity profile, with the same distance scale. It is
very useful for correlating the raw echographic information with calculated
velocity, and check for possible strong static reflection that could spoil
the velocity processing. In some specific cases it allows to display flow
boundaries like walls, obstacles, etc...

POST-PROCESSING
Various types of analysis and post-processing can be achieved offline
on the velocity data.
Software version 3 offers different kind of statistical tools like velocity
histogram (picture at right), statistical moments, etc... to analyze turbulence.
|
|
Power spectrum function (picture at right) analyses frequency distribution
of turbulent energy in the flow.
Moreover cross- and auto correlation analyses periodicities and relationships
between different points in time and space. |
|
A complete flow mapping module is integrated in software version 3. It allows
for 2D velocity measurements by calculating the velocity field at the crossing
points of a transducers grid, each probe being connected to the instrument
internal multiplexer.
This module includes among other things a transducer position editing table
and display (picture at right), a flow mapping sequence editor and an multiplexer
channels test facility for each transducer. |
|
The flow mapping module also includes 2D velocity field table and display
(picture at right), movie tool to animate the velocity field as a function
of time, export utility to external program such as Tecplot or Excel. |

SOFTWARE UPGRADES AND UPDATES
UVP-DUO
Software version 3 is installed on the distant computer controlling the
instrument. It can be run on either Windows 98, ME, SE, NT4, 2000, XP
Home/Pro, the minimum hardware system requirements being as necessary
to run the installed operating system.
Software version 3 is regularly updated, and UVP-DUO users are advised
accordingly.
UVP-XW
UVP-XW standard operating software is version 2.1 (available at no cost
for any UVP-XW user), installed on the UVP-XW internal PC running on Windows
NT4. Nevertheless version 3 has been adapted for Windows NT4 drivers and
is now available for UVP-XW users.
Please contact your local agent for any further informations
Software 3 demo version
A demo version of software version 3 running on any PC is available for
evaluation, please contact your local agent or Met-Flow for more information.
